Becoming a Good Searcher

In my new role as Middle School Tech Integration Specialist, I was looking for some ways that I could help the students and teachers. I found this article from last year about skills we should be teaching students in the first five days. This quote from Alan November stuck with me the most:

“It’s my observation that we are not instilling a discipline and rigor of the grammar and syntax of the tool they are going to use more than anything else for homework.”

I think he is correct in his observation that search engines are probably the most widely used tool for completing homework so I decided to make a lesson that can be used to teach Middle School students some good search engine habits. I found this site created by Kurt Wismer and adapted it to make my own lesson on improving Search techniques.
